A lot of equipment does get manufactured overseas, so they had some export shipping issues that were a little bit slower than normal. A lot of times in a MRFif you think about the way a MRF is designedoutside of the presort, the only reason why people are needed is for quality control because a piece of equipment didnt do what it was supposed to do. Now, its not completely AI (artificial intelligence)--there is human interaction involved to navigate through that--but that kind of is the concept now. RT: What are some unique features of the three new MRFs? As you can imagine, we get a lot of equipment manufacturers that say, Oh, look at this. So, Waste Management was on board with doing an investment in an R&D type facility, and we really werent going to make it very publicly known that we had it just because it would just be for testing and internal purposes. The business specializes in the companys Mountain Tarp and Pioneer tarping systems, Galbreath hoists and Amrep refuse trucks, and Go To Parts OEM and aftermarket parts. There is magic in motion, so to speak, says Nick Daddabbo, director of product management for Wastequip. So, then we said, OK, we have to make a decision: Do you rebuild the south Chicago MRF or do you just say, Lets accelerate this one so it can be a recycling facility that will hit on the volumes? We made that decision in 2019. An online seminar followed that provided additional information on the nonferrous metal separation and heavy metal sorting solutions the company offers. This can be done over and over again while retaining the high quality of the fibers.. The company still uses its older machines, though the newer model is safer for employees, puts out more product over time, runs all the time, and is just as good in quality, Daddabbo says. RT: Do any of the three new MRFs incorporate robotics? On the newer MRFs, with newer equipment, newer technologyyou have more accurate optical scanners, magnets are stronger than beforeyour need for people and robots diminishes.
